El-Hatef El-Islami or Islamic Phone service was established in August 2000, in the Arab Republic of Egypt with the approval of the head of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif. The service is moderate and easy to use. It presents a number of features to the caller:
-
To record a personal question. Each caller receives a discreet PIN number which he uses when he calls back after 24 hours to retrieve the answer. A group of renowned sheikhs and scholars from Al-Azhar Al-Sharif is designated to respond to the questions.
-
To listen to various recorded material prepared by Sheikh Khaled El-Guindy, one of Al-Azhar sheikhs, about the following topics
- Simplified information about the Five Pillars of Islam.
- Short monthly lessons
Some claim that the Islamic Phone commercializes religion. While this service is similar to other institutions, such as publishers of holy books and religious materials, it is different because it serves the needs of Muslims in the modern world. The main objectives of this service are to provide guidance and answers to any kind of question concerning Islam as a religion, its practice and its propagation. We want to provide reliable information about the faith to Muslims and non-Muslims around the world, and to contribute to better understanding Islam in western countries.
